ADF powering storm-hit Victoria
The Australian Defence Force is delivering generators to Victorian households without power.
After wild weather lashed regional Victoria in recent weeks, about 1,500 households were left without power. Authorities now expect they will remain in the dark for several more weeks.
So, about 120 ADF personnel have been dispatched to clear fallen trees and install up to 200 diesel generators.
“These generators are large enough to be able to provide about 8 kilowatts of power, which will be sufficient to run a number of lights in a home, a small heater, and enable Victorians to be able to get back [a bit of comfort],” Energy Minister Lily D'Ambrosio said.
The generators come with a kit including fuel, a jerry can, and safety instructions developed in consultation with Energy Safe Victoria.
