Dramatic footage shows a 17,000 tonne oil rig running aground in Scotland.

A tug was towing the Transocean Winner - a semi-submersible drill rig – through wild weather and rough seas along the west coast of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland.

Local residents were nearby with a camera to catch the calamity, showing the massive rig running into trouble and police trying to handle the scene.

Reports say no personnel were on board the rig at the time of the incident.
