A major new solar farm near Bendigo is set to power 118,000 homes each year.

The Federal Government has approved the 250-megawatt Muskerry Solar Power Station, which will feature around 500,000 solar panels and a 200MW battery system, linked to existing transmission networks.

Fast-tracked in just 20 business days, Minister for the Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek says the project will have minimal environmental impact.

This solar farm is expected to slash emissions by 495,000 tonnes annually, with construction to provide 350 jobs, as well as 10 ongoing roles once operational.
