Leaky well papers surface
Reports say corrosion and leaking have been detected in several Queensland coal seam gas wells.
The reports released to the conservationists under right-to-information laws allegedly reveal “significant” corrosion and leaking at a number of Queensland coal seam gas wells, and question the role bacteria may be playing in the breakdown of gas well casings.
Some of the leaking gas wells are less than 20 years old, leading to calls for broader scrutiny of the thousands of gas wells across the state.
Environmental group Lock the Gate obtained the reports and correspondence between Queensland regulators and gas companies about the remediation of corroded and leaking gas wells.
